Last Monday, August 10, 2020, The Knoxville Dream Center participated in a program called KNOX COUNTY SCHOOL MANIA at Chilhowee Park & Exposition Center.
Hosted by County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, the event proceeded in its second year with a drive-thru format in the parking lot of the Jacob Building.
According to the wate.com announcement post on August 6, 2020, through the support of nearly 60 donors and financial sponsors, the mayor’s office has distributed over 3,000 school supply bags. There’s also a fun informational bag of goodies for every family.
The event started at 2 p.m. in which cars were allowed to assemble at the parking lot but the distribution of the schoolbags and supplies started until 3 p.m. For Safety purposes, the attendees were asked to remain in their vehicles in observance of safe physical distancing.
“This is different than we did it last year, but it’s still going to be a great event,” Mayor Jacobs said. “Our business partners — without whom we could never pull this off — have really stepped up this year. Thanks to them, we are going to be able to provide double the supplies we did last year. So even though it’s different, in many ways it will be even better than before.”
The Knoxville Dream Center as expected, lend a very helping hand by allowing some of their Trucks and Volunteers to participate, making a huge impact on how the whole event turned out!
Most don’t know that Knoxville Dream Center is a non-profit, so they depend on sponsorships and donations to provide their world-class care and keep costs for these families to a minimum.
